Studying graphic design throughout college, Shelby was inspired to create wearable works of art. As time progressed, she inspired herself. It’s now a way for her to express the way she’s feeling. Her “eras,” if you will. She recalls a time she stamped a photo of her crying after a heartbreak.
“I want to stamp it onto a permanent object, like ‘okay, this is what I was feeling.’ to save as a little time capsule for when I was feeling that way.”
Looking back, she not only gets to see how far she has come as an artist but as a human.
She references Frida Khalo when describing why she is the muse for her creations.
"I paint self-portraits because I am the person I know best. I paint my own reality. The only thing I know is that I paint because I need to and I paint whatever passes through my head without any consideration." - Frida Khalo
